Armed Security Officer - State of Georgia Requirements

  • In order to carry a firearm as an armed security officer in the state of Georgia. Officers MUST complete 40 hours of training. Which includes 24 hours basic unarmed training and 16 hour of firearms training. 

  • Upon completing the 40 hour training, Each officers is required to work for a licensed armed security agency and then submit an armed officer registration application to the Georgia Board of Private Detective & Security Agency, along with all training documents and fees. Officers CANNOT work with themselves as an armed security officer.

  • The officer's license will only be issued under a licensed agency.

  • Armed officers can only work armed security under their licensed agency/ employer. He/she cannot use their armed officer's license to do freelance work or work armed security for another company. 

  • Armed officers are required to reqaulifield yearly with their firearms with a licensed firearm instructor. 

  • Continuing Education: Armed officers are required to complete 8 hours of continuing education credits every 2 years prior to renewing their registration/Blue card.

    This must include the following: 

  • two (2) hours in Homeland Security, to include indicators of terrorism, and cooperation with Homeland Security agencies;

  • two (2) hours in Firearms-related training;

  • four (4) hours in industry-related training.

At the conclusion of the classroom portion of the 16-hour course, an examination will be administered to test the student’s mastery of content. Finally, students will be required to demonstrate proficiency in shooting a handgun by passing the course of fire outlined in this training course.
