Unarmed Security Officer - State of Georgia Requirements

Unarmed security officers are required by the State of Georgia to complete a 24-hour course by a licensed instructor with the Georgia Board of Private Detectives and Security Agency.
Unarmed security officers can work the following positions: Uniform & Plaincloth Security, Executive/Personal Protection and In-house security.
Unarmed security officers are not required to register with the State of Georgia.
Unarmed security officers can work as in-house security officers or for a licensed security agency. Who offer security services for a profit. i.e; G4S, Allied, etc
Unarmed security officers CANNOT carry a firearms on-duty using a concealed carry permit or under Georgia's constitutional carry law. Armed security officers must take an additional 16 hour course and be registered under a licensed armed security agency in Georgia.
Unarmed officers can carry traditional handcuffs, expendable baton, O.C. Spray and Taser without any additional license from the State of Georgia. But it is highly recommended that officers become certified in each tool prior to carrying and using it as a security officer. Using less-lethal tools without any training can lead to criminal and civil liability.
Georgia POST certified peace officers are exempt from the training requirement. GBPDSA does not recognize Georgia's Jailer POST
